About
Hosted off-site in Pasadena, December 14th from 10:00am - 1:00pm (address will be sent before event)
We will gather under a canopy of ancient oak trees at an old village site to learn the art of acorn processing - from gathering and shelling to grinding and cooking. We'll start a cooking fire using traditional fire-by-friction techniques and prepare delicious acorn pancakes made with local native berries and topped with local honey. Participants will have the opportunity to try their own creations. By the end of this workshop, you'll gain a deeper understanding of acorn processing and a newfound appreciation for the culinary heritage of acorn-based cuisine.
This will be facilitated by Tim Martinez, a land steward and educator with over fifteen years of experience connecting communities with nature. His expertise in Southern California's native plants and his culinary skills have made him a respected figure in the Indigenous Food movement. As a descendant of Tecuexe Chichimec people, Tim is committed to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Cēmānāhuac.
