Denim Repair + Embroidery

A step-by-step guide to repairing rips and tears in denim using 'invisible mending' and embroidery, inspired by Japanese mending techniques sashiko and kintsugi. In this workshop, we will teach you how to repair rips and tears in your clothing using hand sewing techniques.

We will supply everything you need to repair your favorite denim piece, so we encourage you to bring the piece you have been saving to mend. Our inspiration for this technique comes from runway pieces from Maison Margiela, Jil Sander, Sashi Co, and Yohji Yamamoto. Other Lives Studio is a concept hatched by friends and co-creators Betsy Flores and Kim Krempien. Having worked in fashion weeks around the world & designed for companies like Revolve, Nordstrom and Vince for over a decade, they grew frustrated with the quickening pace of the fashion cycle & the toll their beloved industry was taking on the environment. The two resolved to use their industry design experience to tackle the problem and came together to inspire a new cycle for fashion.
