About

Join us for a soulful evening in celebration of Ethiopian Jazz, featuring the sounds of Los Angeles based Mendir Quartet and traditional coffee ceremony with Maha.

Ethiopian jazz, or Ethio-jazz, is a genre that bridges tradition and modernity — blending the pentatonic scales of Ethiopian folk music with the improvisational spirit of jazz and the groove of funk.

Rooted in the timeless grooves of the genre and infused with the spirit of improvisation, the Mendir Quartet is was brought together by Yared, Randal, Joose, and Nadav through their shared love of music that transcends boundaries. With drums, guitar, saxophone, and bass, their sound is a conversation between cultural traditions and the future. Inspired by the legacy of visionaries like Mulatu Astatke and Getatchew Mekuria, they honor their roots while expanding the sound, doing their part to push the wave forward.

Up in the loft, our friend Maha will be serving guests in traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. As we gather in the spirit of connection and community, Maha will guide us through this ritual that has long accompanied storytelling, music, and togetherness in Ethiopian homes.

Doors will open at 7pm, and music will begin at 7:30pm. Guests are invited to lounge in the space and savor the evening until 10pm.

As we kick off Black History Month, we are extending a special invitation to the Black community to receive a 15% discount with code "ETHIOJAZZ". These spots are available on a first come, first served basis — so if the code is not working, the spaces have been filled. This code is also offered on an honor system basis. Please be respectful of our intention to center the Black community in this cultural celebration. Thank you.
