About
Gather with us in celebration of the Winter Solstice and learn about the Dongzhi Festival, also known as the Winter Arrival. Tang Yuan is a sweet dessert made of stuffed glutinous rice balls, floating in a sweet syrup broth. It is commonly made together with loved ones as a symbol of reunion. The phrase Dongzhi symbolizes light over darkness, and the growing of days which will bring a sense of balance and harmony (yin and yang).
In celebration of the winter arrival, we will gather together to create this warming dessert, as well as indulge in a savory vegetarian herbal tang yuan soup. You will be offered a variety of fillings to fill each glutinous rice ball, which will then be cooked together in class and served with your choice of sweet broth. As an offering for you to share with a loved one, you will also make another tang yuan dessert to take home with you.
