About
Suminagashi (墨 流 し) is an ancient Japanese technique of marbling paper using floating ink.
With a shallow tray of water as the canvas and sumi ink as the paint, participants will learn how to create and manipulate designs onto the surface of water, capturing it with rice or cotton paper.
Each design is a unique monotype that can never be replicated.
More than just a technique for creating beautiful designs, Suminagashi is also considered an art therapy practice due to its calming nature. By only being able to control where and how long the brush touches the waters surface, Suminagashi encourages participants to slow down, be more mindful, and rekindle their love for individuality.
No previous art experience is required.
This workshop will take place at the annex.
